Welcome to the Shooting Ministry updates page!

UPDATED APRIL 13, 2016

This Saturday, April 16th, is the next day on the range. As I mentioned, we will do a service project before we go to the range in an effort to "show God's love in a practical way" (this is a ministry as well!) The plan is to meet at church at 9am and go to the home of a widow of the church and do some landscaping for her. She recently fell and hurt herself while attempting to do some yard work.

Because of the limited availability of the range, we will need to make this trip an evening class. We will meet at the church at 5pm. We will have a few minutes of classroom and then go to the range (~6 mile drive).

So I can get a good head count, please text me back and let me know 1) if you will be attending and 2) if you need ammo. If weather looks bad, I'll let you know if we cancel.

As a reminder, if you know someone who might be interested in participating in this ministry, have them contact me. Also, anytime you are on the range you must be able to recite the Four Rules of Handling Firearms.

We might start doing a Sunday afternoon range time. Let me know if this would fit your schedule better.

Remember, links to the Four Rules of Handling Firearms and links to purchase Ear and Eye Protection are below this section.

See you soon!

---------------------------------

There are a few things we need to let you know. Below you will find important information that will prepare you for our first day on the range.

Range & Class information:

Our first day on the range will be March 19th. We will meet at the church at 10:00am. We will spend a few minutes doing some review in the classroom and then head together to the range. The range is a private range about 6 miles from the church. Because of limited parking space, it would be good if some of us could carpool together. We may be at the range until 2pm.

What you will need to bring with you to the range:

Use this link (What to bring to the Outdoor Range) to find a printable check-off list for items to bring with you. You should consider using this list every time you visit a range.

If you need to purchase any required items, you may click the links below and order them directly from Amazon.com

Ear Protection

Eye Protection in either Amber/Yellow or Clear.

Regarding ammunition (ammo) and a firearm:

Important: Plan to have at least 100 rounds of ammo. You will use at least 77 rounds for the exercises that day. Additional may be needed for practice shots.

You have three options for shooting that day:

Option 1)   Bring your own pistol and ammunition

Option 2)   You may plan to use my pistol (9mm or .380) and bring your own ammunition. I recommend purchasing 115 grain Full Metal Jacket (round-nose). However, any "9mm Luger" ammo will suffice.

Option 3)   You may plan to use my pistol (9mm or .380) and I will provide the ammunition at cost. Prices for the ammo as of 3/6/16 are $23 for 100 rounds. This is the price you will pay. Please plan to pay for the ammo the day you use it. If you cannot afford it that day, let me know. We will work something out for you. You may pay by cash or a personal check. Please let me know if you plan to use my ammo so I can be sure I bring enough for everyone.

Other items to remember:

First, you WILL BE REQUIRED to have memorized the Four Rules of Handling Firearms. I might ask you “What is the third rule?” or “What are all four rules?” or anything similar. Because safety is paramount, if you cannot answer any question regarding the Four Rules of Handling Firearms, you WILL NOT be allowed to shoot. I don’t want to be mean and rude, but this requirement will assure you that your neighbor on the range knows the rules as well!! Here is a link to the Four Rules of Handling Firearms that you may print out for your convenience.

Secondly, the next range date tentatively scheduled for April 9th or 16th will include a Servant Evangelism event. So, if you know of someone (anyone – church member or not) that needs assistance (like something in their house needs to be done and they cannot do it because of a disability or age – or anything like that), let me know. This primary goal of this ministry is to show the love of Christ in a practical way.

Next, if you know of anyone who might be interested in attending this class, let me know. I am willing to spend some one-on-one time with anyone who might need some assistance. However, I will need to talk to them and they also will be required to be perfectly familiar with the Four Rules of Handling Firearms. For a refresher, here is a link to help you: The Four Rules of Handling Firearms

Finally, feel free to text or call me with any questions or concerns. I am here to help you!!! I promise, you are not bothering me!
